This is a long standing fight I've had with the Left.
"You want to CUT subsidies for farmers? WELL! I guess you just hate poor, working class, rural people."
"No, that's you when you were celebrating the Gatlinburg fire in 2016 when a slew of people were burned alive. I want to cut regulations and the subsidies are dependency system that keeps farmers from being too productive and profitable."
FOOD CONTROL has always been a major priority of Socialist states, because it allows them to manipulate the populations, starve dissidents, and poison the healthy. Like you reading this right now.
Farming should actually be wildly easy to create social mobility. One of the stereotypes about blacks is about their love of fried chicken and watermelon. In reality: freed blacks, who had been farmers for 20 years when they left the plantation, found that farming watermelon and raising chickens gave them chicken meat, eggs, feathers, fresh water, and rich carbohydrates and sugars in soil conditions that might as well have been gravel on the worst possible land (which was the cheapest they could afford). You can raise chicken and watermelon in absolutely garbage conditions and still make a profit. Especially when chickens will eat damn near anything, and watermelon can grow on anything. If you have even half-way decent soil, you can grow potatoes. And, my god, potatoes are a fucking cheat code for farming. A bag of 12 potatoes can easily net you another 5-10 bags of potatoes at the end of your growing season.
So, if Farming can be so productive, why the hell do we even have poor farmers, let alone farmers that are cash strapped? Seriously, farmers are the poorest millionaires you'll ever see in your life. Ask fucking Jeremy, even he figured it out.
Interesting thing about watermelons is that western Europeans associated them with foreigners because people from Turkey and the Middle East would grow them in Europe because they were used to growing them back home. You can grow them a literal desert.
As a Southern man I can say the love of chicken, watermelon, assorted greens, and beans transcends race. I think the only people who see this as a purely black stereotype are those damn yankees.

Here's Jeremy Clarkson realizing just how many potatoes he can grow in only two acres.

Ha! That clip reminds me of this one.

I started going to farmer's markets to pick all the meat and produce up.
