I think they did the same with GTA though so they have a track record..
The trailers aren't just to build up hype it's also signalling to investors and shareholders 'we got a project to make more money coming', they kind of got away with GTA Online for years and update trailers because that was (and still is) a cash cow.
Crowbcat, despite millions of views, does not represent mainstream consciousness. The general population has no idea what a vertical slice is. We know GTA6 will absolutely not look as good as the trailer, but normies have no clue.
The newer Pokemon trailers have given me an absolute hatred for the term "game footage not final." And the sheer number of midwits it has enabled to defend Gamefreak's corner cutting.

RDR2 had 3 trailers and 2 major delays. However, the first trailer was still pretty honest.
