If Santa, the magical gift giver, existed for real, he'd probably give gifts to the people who hold onto their belief, regardless of age. After all, it's in his best interest to maintain the Christmas Spirit, as it's also his power supply. The problem, like with real life, is people would get jaded by the darkness of the world, and find ways to rationalize his gifts away, or secure themselves so tightly that he couldn't get in to deliver them.
I dunno. I think a lot of us follow evidence. If presents magically appeared under my tree every year that had no other explanation, I'd count that as pretty good evidence that some supernatural entity was putting them there.
