The Coffin of Andy and Leyley creator steps back after alleged doxxing
Nemlei, the creator of The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is stepping back from online activities after reportedly being doxxed. In a recent pre-devlog statement, Kit9 Studio announced that the freelancers…
People who enjoy a game have no obligation to the dev. My relationship withnthem is purely business. I pay for something and I expect it to be 100% functional and feature complete in release, ideally never needing to be patched because it was released in a perfect state. The dev must sink or swim from the merit of their games. I have long since outgrown loyalty to a brand, dev or any product. I'm not saying doxxing is right, I'm saying fans owe the devs NOTHING.
Considering it was a one person dev, if it isn't "right" then you probably owe the person the basic humanity and morality to defend them from injustice. Especially if a fan wanted the game to actually get finished.
Yes, this is true I'm not shitting on the devs themselves either but I feel like when people go into game dev and especially outsiders they grossly underestimate how much work and stress is involved when you're actually going professional for real. My favourite thing to point out to anybody considering it, everyone thinks they want to be a game dev until they realise there's actual work involve. Now imagine having to deal with all that actual game dev work while simultaneously having to be autistic as fuck about personal security because of the amount of attention you've received.
Comes across to me like Dani, who's another indie developer who didn't seem to have anything too dramatic happen to him by comparison luckily. He seemed to simply not be able to take the level of e-fame he managed to get and hadn't thought seriously about shit like personal security and what would happen if he gets doxxed and people find out about him. Guy seems to have just up and quit his projects as well. Allegedly he's coming back? But I have my doubts, seems to be a bit of a thing with game devs that make it. Easier to just sell off the project for a crap ton and get out of there which I don't necessarily blame him for.
Even the big studios pull this shit quite often where you've got them releasing something then never touching it for months and just collecting their millions but that's more due to them being greedy fucks than anything I can be sympathetic towards.
