Explain like I'm atheist: what's the big deal here?
A simple meal with the pope could be spun as an opportunity to bring the trans out of sin. 'Jesus ate with prostitutes/sinners,' etcetera, etcetera.
I take it that there is more to the outrage than wasted time/opportunity or having presumably unrepentant sinners come near the figurehead of the theology.
I know he's been a virtue signaling commie. What I'm confused about is why having trannies come over is 1. surprising given this pope, or 2. sacrilegious?

Maybe if it was different pope.

The pope, according to Catholics, literally speaks to god.
It is one of the many absolute nonsense claims that spawned Lutheranism/protestantism. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that he doesn’t.
You don't bring them out of the sin, you condemn them and deal with them as heretics.
