I hear you, brother. I've found I'm more mindful in general when I create dedicated times where I don't use my phone at all. I think phone hygiene like that can be beneficial for many reasons, including for the sake of relationship quality.
I'm a big fan of stacking phones into a tower when at a table for a meal. You can start there, shaming people for touching the stack during the meal. After you've conditioned a 'phones down' behavior, you can expand the application of it.
You can't really wake someone up by calling them out. That will just put them on the defensive. You can however nudge them into it by pointing out to them the actions of someone else. Seeing themself from an outside perspective might give them that spark of self reflection. If not... well, not everyone is built for inward thinking.
