"Miles Morales" standalone sold only a third of what "Marvel's Spider-Man" did
Anyone that knows is most likely avoiding Miles' side missions like the plague
They showed how little they cared about player opinion when not only do they double down on Mary Jane missions, they actually try to make her an action hero, going up against trained super-hunters and monstrous symbiote-infected
"Marvel's Spider-Man 3" is going to flop in comparison.
Oh, and I almost forgot, Yuri Watanabe is now a punk dyke with a chain&sickle, and somehow able to go toe-to-toe with Spider-Man.
"In comparison"
It’s got some momentum but loads of people have complained about 2 being dumbed down hard from the first game and loads of useless, boring side missions. The momentum has slowed down and it’ll probably be worst when Iso throws out the first trailers with no Peter.
Sequel sales are a vote on the predecessor. I suspect if The Last of Us 3 was ever made it would be a total disaster.
Mile Morales has always been a terrible character but I think Insomnia did the impossible and made him decent. However they can't help themselves and just let him be the side kick, he has to take over the hero spot.
Most people didn't pay attention to Miles' game, as even Sony outright called it an expansion pack, and it was rightfully assumed to be irrelevant spinoff fluff.
Which means that 2 is coasting entirely on 1's successes. Vanilla original 1 specifically, as I saw a lot of people surprised and upset at the Tom Holland model they replaced the original Peter with in the re-release of it. So this one had hype from people who paid zero attention to the greater picture, and just remember really enjoying the first one and went from there.
I doubt 3 will flop, but I think it'll be a notable downtrend overall.
