If the metrics themselves weren't fake and gay the sort of things those metrics (in theory) represent are boast-worthy if put in proper context: "We're so affluent and have such abundance even our poor are obese. Our great-grandparents couldn't conceive of such a thing."
Of course managerial types are incapable of thinking of things in those terms.

It's not just Australia, pretty much every Western country boasts about GDP and unemployment rates.
