Just throwing ideas at the wall here rather than actually advocating this:
Maybe suicidal people like this should be killed so they can't infect the rest of the population with their malady. What good comes of allowing someone to do something like this? I see quite a bit of harm in tolerating this behavior because if it's seen to be allowed then it takes a step closer to being normalized.
Suicides are deliberately not reported on in any heavy manner by journalists specifically because it has a demonstrated and recorded trend of causing copy-cat suicides to occur.
My natural cynicism suggests that this is less due to any compassion on the news media part and more that they don't want to be sued into oblivion.
Propaganda works. They advertise this sort of thing because they want to see more of it. The ship has already sailed - if you want to strangle this sort of activity in the crib, you need to stop Journalists from reporting on it in any capacity.
...sadly, any solid, immediate option that comes to mind to achieve this swerves directly into... yeah, we're not going there right now. I'm nowhere near drunk enough.
