At least half a dozen BBC reporters in the Middle East are under investigation for displaying anti-Israeli bias on social media, including one senior correspondent who made fun of the relatives of a kidnapped grandmother. (twitter.com)

I've been noticing a lot of "right wing" figures taking a new stance on cancel culture lately.

I'm still a strong believer in both freedom of speech and freedom of association.

If I don't want to associate with someone because of someone else's beliefs, I don't want to be forced to. And similarly, if I want to associate with someone despite their beliefs, I don't want anyone else getting in the way of that (which is what cancel culture is really all about).

If some jackass willingly posts support for killing of civilians, I'm 100% happy for them both to have the right to say it, and for every body who isn't a fan of terrorists to choose to stay the fuck away from them. What's not ok is when a mob bullies people into disassociating from someone for reasons that have nothing to do with the association to begin with.

Freedom of Association ceased to exist once the "Civil Rights" Movement made it a requirement that you must allow types of people you don't want to associate with into your business and often your places of gather.

As long as that is a legal requirement, we don't have that freedom in the slightest and any idea we might is an illusion.
