I'd assume its because they know people are using "pronouns in bio" as a green flag to bully someone. So now you can put a small shield against that fact to limit it only to people who, in theory, are on your side because they subscribe to you.

I might be being optimistic about their planning ability, but that's literally the only answer I can come up with for it.
