He's getting more active again, doing the media rounds and the like. How's everyone feeling about the dude?
I will say, despite his bumbling retard routine, I find him ridiculously charismatic if nothing else. Even if I don't agree with him on something, I can often appreciate how he says it. I've criticized him for it for years, but I just wish he'd be a bit more clear, so people who aren't in the know actually understand what he's talking about, but perhaps it's part of his act. Say something true, but in such a way that it just seems stupid, get the media to focus on it. Seems to have worked for him for many years.
Did people listen to his recent interview with Kristen Welker? She did the standard "get Trump" routine and, as per tradition, largely just got Trumped.
I wish we had better options, but I personally think Trump is far from the worst.
So, yeah, how are people feeling about Trump?
I'm still not confident he will do enough, but I can't tell if that's because he's hiding his power level, or he's trying to appeal to Democrats a bit.
And before you slam him for that, you do have to accept that one thing is undeniable, and I specifically got proven wrong in my predictions because of it. White Union Democrats turned out less for him in 2020 than they did in 2016. Not by a huge amount, but by enough to absolutely make the race much closer than it should have been. These were Union Dems who were persuaded by Leftist rhetoric, and the promises of the Unions, that the Biden admin would be in their favor; and with the astronomical pressure they got, they bought into it.
Even now, Trump is getting huge support from Zoomers while his Boomer support seems to have cooled. He does have to appeal to Dems, and yes there are some Dems able to be persuaded, and white union voters are one of those. I originally thought that Trump would basically dominate the white vote, and cause massive additional "new voter" or "disaffected voter" turnout, and that happened, but without all the Union members on his side, several states were in far more play than they should have been.
He's clearly made statements about how he's going to be "president for everyone" which is great; but we all miss the fire he had from the 2016 debates where he smashed Jeb.
I think he's been a bit misled on where his support celling is, and he may actually think he needs to win votes in rather unpredictable places just to get around the fraud.
I want to elect Sulla, but I will settle for him breaking some of the institutional power; but this is a generational fight. Even if Trump wins, we've got over a decade of fighting to keep doing; and you'd better fucking believe that if he wins they'll blow up the world economy in front of him.
Like I said, I'd vote for Larry Elder, but 2024 has to be Trump one way or another. Dave Smith is apparently running, and that's great, but I'd rather the Mises Caucus put more work into gaining ground in New Hampshire. A lot of people from Massachusetts have been coming into the state, and they are making it hard-left. If the Republicans get destroyed in NH, and all that remains is the Democrats and the Libertarians, that's still a win overall.
Some people were slamming him for that, but honestly I'm pretty impressed. Also, you have to realize Trump is a massive bullshit artist. I know it's the whole "hahaha, even Trump's supporters think he's a liar" meme, but there's some truth there. Trump says lots of things, not all of them indicative of, well, anything.
So, as much as I often criticize the right attack their opponents on the right from the left, Trump at least executes really well. When he does it, I'm often left feeling more impressed than annoyed. The Kristen Welker thing is a good example; he was asked if he'd sign a 15 week federal abortion ban, and he said something like he'd "get both sides to the table" and bring about "historic peace not seen in fifty years," and "everyone would be happy." It's total bullshit, but it was a much better answer - in my opinion - than answering the question one way or the other.
I saw plenty on the right attacking him for that specifically, but I thought it was pretty genius. He left on the table that he might sign it, but refused to say he would, and dangled some meat for both sides. For better or worse, you can't currently go too hard on abortion, or even the enough of the right will turn on you to hurt you. Which might be stupid, but it seems to be the case. I personally thought he answered the question quite well, in his own supreme bullshitting way.
So, yeah, I agree. As frustrating as it is all these "conservatives" spewing lib talking points, to some extent it's necessary. The first step is getting Trump in office, after all, and everything else comes after that.
