we can simply re-consume the original that we cared about again and again indefinitely. No franchise needs to continue forever anyway, so we can just pretend it didn't.

It's especially easy with movies and reboots and stuff. When a currently running series gets worse and worse, it can be hard to give up on it, even if it's terrible. When they release new content after a break, it's easy to distance it from the original, since it is literally separate.

Star Wars being a good example. There's a huge difference between the original trilogy, the prequels, and the sequels. You can take or leave whichever you want, really. I saw the way the sequels were going, and never even watched past the first one. Don't feel like I missed out at all.

Exactly, and I think people need to learn that "skill" early on. Or they end up like a lot of the "Fandom Menace" who are so obsessed with Star Wars they still cannot let go how bad the sequels were, even as it clearly effects their health.

Its not even a woke thing. I fucking loved the Chronicles of Riddick movies (both 1 and 2 for different reasons), saw where the 3 was going and just didn't bother with it.
