It takes place in 30kish and is all space-opera military that leads up to the foundational event of the 40k universe.
The Emperor of Mankind is attempting to unite the remnants of the previous fallen Human galactic empire that had become separated for thousands of years.
To do this he created 20 genetically pretty much demigod generals to lead his armies of super soldiers. Eventually he stepped back and left the crusade to one of them Horus.
The first 3 books are about how Horus became disillusioned and eventually corrupted into betraying and turning against the Emperor.
The actual theme isn't at all however the idea of a huge spanning empire built by humans is another type of story that appeals to men. So there are similarities in the idea of empire building against all odds while being surrounded by enemies. Rome in that respect is kind of similar in my view but it's fictional and sci-fi and it goes to a level of detail that would probably shock a lot of normie women lol. It really does go back to the whole 'men aren't that deep' bullshit women have been posting for years and now they're finding out how wrong they are.
What’s that series about? I recently found an alternate reality anthology of a Roman space program.

Ohhh. Cool! I’m thinking it was tied to the Romans. Sounds really good.
