I know Christians will possibly hate on me for this, but a very common theme with religions is you have to have some angry god you need to appease which is how religions control people through fear. You have to believe and worship in a certain way otherwise the god will punish you.
In this case the environmentalist movement seems to have taken the hippy bullshit about mother earth and gaia then put that on steroids. The right wingers aren't wrong in that the leftists are worshipping climate change as their new religion and honestly many of these middle class activists especially really believe in this shit.
Case in point of why I don't buy into religion at all, why does religion need to scare me into obedience? I mean I remember watching a debate on LBC ages ago and it was between a guy and this Muslim woman over the hijab and this woman honestly believed she would go to hell if she didn't wear her hijab. That's what's going on with environmentalists except they think the planet is going to kill them if they don't do something which is also partly why they get so mad when people openly make fun of them for it.
Reformed Christianity offers one path to eternity with God: Christ. We are saved by grace, which is freely given. That’s salvation.
If you know Christ, you’ll try to live according to the law God set out for us, which does include turning away from sin. That’s sanctification. It’s hard. We fail. But if we repent, we are forgiven of all of it.
I don’t have to wear special clothes or turn around three times and pat my head or sacrifice goats or give half my money to the church. Those things won’t save me. Only Christ. And he already did.
Justification and salvation are free gifts, according to the Bible: “... justified by his grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.” -Rom 3:24
If Lutherans say God’s love is free and true, they’re right, but I’m just going by what the Bible says.
The concept of being saved immediately goes back to my argument that religion is about fear, what are you being saved from? Being saved indicates you need to be saved from something or else something bad will happen to you therefore follow my religion.
The logic behind these religions is so simple it's remarkable how many people don't see it. I actually don't have anything against spirituality generally because at the end of the day if that's what keeps people sane I won't knock it. However I'm going to call it like I see it if I think people are being manipulated which is why I take against organised religion so much.
Given the choice between eternity with God and eternity separated from him, I choose the former. It’s not a fear thing, it’s a love thing. Fear is compulsion, and you’re right in that false religions lean heavily on that aspect. But love is a choice.
Christian theology is a profound, challenging topic with the opportunity for lifelong learning and growth and meaning. You do indeed have a very simple understanding of it, and I lived much of my life in the very same mindset. I’d challenge you to dig a little deeper. You might be pleasantly surprised.
I think that once you accept the idea of any god or karma or force guiding the universe, it becomes more logical than not to assume that said force would impose consequences for certain behaviors. What's the alternative, after all? "This great cosmic being made the entire universe, carefully sculpted it to create this world he oversees, and made his presence known to the lesser beings on it that he created according to his grand plan... but he doesn't have any particular demands for them, or ways to reward or discourage behavior"?
If one wants to go agnostic or atheist and say "I have no idea what's going on with the universe," or "the universe is basically just probability over time, there's nothing more," then both of those logically lead to "therefore, I don't follow any particular divine rules." To accept (a specific) religion and then say "why are there so many rules and consequences," however, seems unhinged.
Voltaire explained this ages ago, as have many others, and woke Current Year should be enough proof that people will create new gods if they don't have one.
Maybe YOU don't need religion, but society does.
From a religious perspective, you might also understand that the fire and brimstone pastor is not merely trying to scare you, but really does want to save your soul.
Awww... lookit the downvotes from the angry neckbeards...
Look, the first thing you need to understand about Christianity is it's not about appeasing an angry God. The first rule about Christianity is you can NOT appease God!

I’m not scared. I’m free.
Lutheran spotted
Interesting. Not a Lutheran.

Hes a sinner living in sin who is scared of God because sin has consequences. You can't reason with that type of person

You don't understand religion or especially Christians
#NotAllChristians
No, not any Christians, you just aren't educated, its okay to be retarded though
Tell me you don’t know a thing about Christianity without telling me a thing about Christianity.
Religion and moral fables are not the same thing - though they do have some commonalities.
