He should have just supported Trump again this time, defended him against attacks, and then run for President 4 years later, with the full support of Trump's entire former base.
He could've got a win out of his run anyway by running like Vivek or Larry Elder and supporting Trump while bringing a couple of neglected issues to light and building his brand. Instead, he and his wife thought he could actually take the primary from Trump... one of the biggest miscalculations in politics.
