As the sun warms the ocean moisture rises, by 10 AM it reaches an altitude where it condenses and falls back raining for about 30 minutes, cooling the ocean surface. This then repeats until it rains at about 4PM. On a hotter day it might rain a little sooner, and cooler days a little later.

It rained a bit more in North Shore Oahu where I lived, but yeah, the rain was clockwork.
At Hawaii Kai where a friend lived, we had to fight a grass fire because that are was a desert. It even had cacti.
