Anyone else think that this is the correct place to discuss theism?
I know most are just here to play vidya' and I'm more about the principles of information integrity as passed through messaging but the boards seem to be all about religious dogma these days and so I thought a polling thread to see how welcomed they are would be appropriate.
I don't believe in asking for bans generally, but I've been self banning those posts lately by just ignoring them. Maybe there's something useful in them, but the first few I looked at were full of one and two sentence back and forth. I deduce most of that type of discussion to same value as sibling bickering like "Mom, he's touching me!," "No he's touching me!" So, it's just not worth the time.
I think as always "it depends".
On one hand, Christianity was undeniably a dominant force in Western culture and it's impossible to divorce it entirely from the golden age of Vidya we all long for. The archetypal hero and self sacrifice we often call for is rooted in those ideals and whether we are religious or not.
On the other hand, I don't think there's any value to Bible study passages and I would be ok with banning those posts.
That's where I'd draw the line anyway, though there's certainly an argument for some passage study. The recent video I linked to is a long those lines in that it uses biblical passages to demonstrate that it was in fact the result of absorption of even older cultures (Canaanites) and their stories.
And of course, pirates and strippers should be mandatory.
I'm all for discussion of archetypal heroes and villains, their origins across the globe, and throughout history with biases spread across class, species, gender, race, creed and everything else, how morality is defined and tested with people sharing their thoughts upon existentialism and faith and pretty much anything anyone can come up with beyond these limits.
I'm just not sure that this is the right place to explore solely biblical (And even then the King James' version of events) passages though. There is an entire Internet out there filled with areas dedicated to exploring these ideas and themes with people fervent for the topics.
I'd say we've got three possible options as to why these types of threads have started appearing recently.
Some Christians feel that somewhere in their minds there is a kernel of truth from the bible which somehow can assist with some of the membership here - to which I say many people have beliefs in their dogmas be it the contemporary fashionable SJW vogue or other prejudicial groups towards outsiders. I don't think they are useful for the overall objectives of this forum.
Some people, either posing as edgy fellows or soy bois, are trying to paint this place as somewhat religious in nature, possibly just for lols or to undermine any credence that has been established in the past nine years pointing out inconsistencies in journalism shown within our membership.
Some certifiably insane people have been guided here, for whatever reason, to pour out their eternal loneliness onto our flames hoping that it can forever be emptied (Sorry, it can't) but sadly, for them at least, their tears fall upon flashpoint reaction temperatures at our outer embers and only increase our visibility due to their vapours.
I feel the same for any threads wishing to discuss intricate matters when posted en masse. There are places for those discussions and I don't think here is that place.
I'm all for people discussing whatever they want within the civil rules here, it's the bulk posting on matters not suited to here which give me cause for concern.
KiA2 has been more than just vidya for a long while now.
I don't like liars. Instead of blocking that daily verse OP because you don't appreciate it, you instead want them silenced so that no one that would appreciate it can. I would say this attitude is less deserving of being here versus a single daily quote than a very smart atheist can just downvote and ignore.
Read the thread title :)
