I'd recommend skipping the part in Judges where the Jacobites rape a woman to death. The entire story there are just signs of absolute degeneracy I never want to hear about today. I have a special brown marking pencil for messed up stuff like that.
The Bible is often descriptive not prescriptive. God is by no means condoning what happened but is necessarily describing it as a necessary lesson in cultural moral development. The word of God is living and powerful, treat it as such.
My mom used to have me listen to Bible stories for kids on tape and they went over this story leading to Saul along with Eli. A lot of my early Bible knowledge came from those tapes.
As a kid I’d get annoyed when my mom had me reading books during the summer or listen to tapes about the Bible but as an adult all that is greatly appreciated. She even used to have us listen to tapes with vocabulary words to learn. Those have proved very helpful in life.
It took me a while but in my late 20s I realized just how dumb I was to think my parents didn’t know what they were talking about. I’m blessed that they retired in the county I live in and are in good health. I happily take any advice they provide now
It’s awesome to see someone in Gen Z so immersed in scripture. Although my generation (being born in 80 I’m either a very young gen x student r very old millennial) has those like that. Did you grow up going to church? I did and while I never stopped believing I got lazy and stopped going when I got out of the Air Force. Started going again in 2017 and now I am one of the youth leaders and help with other stuff at church.
This is applicable to the right as well as the left. We have to read our Bibles.
