I was listening to Midnight’s Edge and he was going over the history of the proposed King Conan movie that never happened as well as the show that the stupid lady at Amazon rejected for being “too masculine”. Apparently the guy that would’ve been in charge would’ve been the same guy that was in charge of the He-Man animated series. You know the self professed fan who butchered the story. So the guy that has the Conan license decided not to work with Netflix.
Honestly this is a slam dunk. If HBO was smart they would do a Conan series with a hyper masculine lead,sex/nudity, and violence. It could be a hit for someone who accepts that pandering to “the modern audience” is a worthless endeavor
The producer is an actual cowboy (owns the massive 3 Sixes ranch in Texas) and most of the extras and stuntmen are actual ranchers/cowboys. Problem is that even if you staff the upper management with based people, you still have to actually hire actors. Some stuff slips through, but it typically gets portrayed as stupid/foolish by other characters. Main points:
Main female character portrays herself as a "YASS QUEEN SLAY" girlboss. In reality, she's utterly fucked up because she got pregnant as a teen, and the doctor botched it and sterilized her. The fact that she'll never have kids has broken her, and she's admitted that. She admits to one of the male leads that she wishes she had kept the baby (it was his) and that had they gotten married as teens and just run away, both of them would probably be better of and more well adjusted.
Father figure and owner of the ranch is openly anti-progress and anti-leftist. He literally runs a political campaign in later seasons by stating that his job will be to resist external influences, stop the "invasion" by people not from their state, and to roll back his predecessor's "reforms." He also has a wonderful scene where he rips a bunch of vegans who decided to protest "MEAT IS MURDER" at a stockyard.
Father figure ends up sleeping with lead protester because she has that reaction we all know and love where lefty women have their first real wet pussy when they meet a not-soyboy for the first time. Daughter and protester walk in on each other at breakfast... and daughter immediately begins shitting on her. Was it nice finally fucking a real man, our kitchen has real food, if you want to have a wheatgrass smoothie go eat with the cows, etc., etc.
At one point, one of the ranch foremen decides that he's going to solve their cowboy shortage by hiring a few female ropers. This goes all sorts of sideways. End result is disunity, fighting, loss of productivity, and an ass chewing by the father figure where he reminds the foreman that women don't belong everywhere.
Overall, the show has a lot of really good points, but it is made in Current_Year+9, so it's got bad bits, too.
I'd say YS is 90% based and 10% the actual shit we have to deal with because leftist idiots do still roam the earth.
Weirdly the create Taylor Sheridan "claims" he doesn't see why people consider.the show right leaning. Hahaha okay sure buddy. I think it's PR to not mire the show with a certain reputation. But if you've seen his other work, I'm fairly certain we all know this guy's political leanings.
Dude owns a ranch so damn big that each individual paddock is bigger (10,000 acres) than your typical urbanite's home range. Dude's hat is so big you could line it with tinfoil and pick up free satellite. Yeah, pretty sure we all know his politics.
His name frequently pops up in movie recommendation circles, and even though I never remember his name, when I just looked him up he did two of my favourite recent films: Hell or Highwater and Wind River.
Guy is definitely doing the PR rounds by playing dumb about the "right leaning" stuff to keep the Lefties off his back, because both those films are the complete opposite of Left-wing propaganda. They can basically be summed up as: straight White male has to do what a man has to do to get the job done.
So yeah, it would be easy to see why people would be drawn to a show that carries similar principles as the films.
True. I watch and enjoy the show. And the daughter got her butt kicked by those guys and she is far from perfect. Have you seen the prequels? I don’t have paramount plus
I loved when he told that vegan that she kills all sorts of living things whenever she plows a field
I saw the first episode of 1883 on a flight. It was pretty good, slightly more... normie... than Yellowstone. I have acquired the entire season and am gonna watch it, soon-ish.
