I've been doing the maths on this myself and it's fascinating partly because I'm a programmer and obviously deal with tech a lot. You raid an iphone shop as an example that's going to be a couple thousand easy money especially if they won't prosecute depending on the area.
Corporations don't give a shit because it's all insured but for the communities obviously it becomes a nightmare and they're the ones who have to deal with the stores closing eventually due to lack of profitability if they're scared of shopping in the area with all the crime. It's becoming more profitable nowadays for criminals to steal tech and luxury items from the shops than it is to steal anything else because there's so little risk. They must be fucking loving it in places like New York and Los Angeles, I bet those stupid security tags do fuck all.
Not even corporations are immune, as Walmart's exodus from Portland shows.
With higher interest rates and rampant crime, commercial real estate is a ticking time bomb. As more and more businesses say "fuck it," abandon their buildings and leave banks holding the bag, we will see these leftist hive cities collapse in real time.
