It's part laziness and the other part is an attempt at ensuring the industry is only full of people with the same ideology to create hegemony as even if you don't believe it, you ONLY got in because of your minority status so know your place.

Acting is hard, just get (insert minority) to do it than an actor willing to research a part to this degree

Doesn't matter how well you research or act if the casting director says "Cool, but you're white. NEXT!"
It's why I quit my voiceover dreams.
Damn shame, best bet is to not give up but do something independent.
Seen more popularity in online comic dubs so as long as you ask permission of the author this is always a possible route for your passion
