That's the point. They want to poison the well so badly that people will reject the very notion of it...Because they believe once unshackled from democracy, they will simply be the unquestioned rulers. You won't even get the theater of pretending you can vote them out or resist.
I don't know, I think they like the facade. It gives them the appearance of authority and legitimacy, while they can still pretend to represent the will of the people. It's very convenient. I don't think there's much reason to end the con.
The people who oppose them are increasingly ceasing to believe in it whatsoever, which means questioning their authority and balking at their Elite Untouchability status.
The fact that 1/6 happened, as pathetically milquetoast as it was to us, was enough to put actual fear, and with it hatred, in many members of the Fed. They know they can't simply rest on the laurels of this dream-like idea anymore. Not without pulling back harshly and letting the dogs go back to sleep, which they aren't capable of without their own side's instability exploding back on them.
