Muslims can be cool as long as you're A) up front with them and B) make it absolutely clear who is in charge. You would think that invading two countries would accomplish that, but no. Bush's approach was a weird mix of belligerence and deference that achieved the worst of both worlds. He killed a bunch of Muslim foot soldiers, which basically doesn't accomplish anything, but opened up immigration and gave the ones who made it here the keys to the kingdom. Muslims are highly attuned to weakness, and it was child's play for them to game that policy.
Trump, on the other hand, made it clear that he understood the dangers of Islam. However, he also gave them a carrot if they got along with him (stability in the Middle East) and never asked more than they could give (such as demanding they adopt democracy). As a result, his presidency was one of the most peaceful in history.
