We'd need the internal data from companies to know for sure (good luck obtaining that) but it could be that it's no longer an effective tool for long term engagement and making money.
I know a lot more games are doing a 'pity' system where they have rng (though non payed in my examples) and have a way to get the things in game anyway over time if rng is not in your favour. Maybe people are tired of the random nature nowadays?
Forza hasn't had a ton of that anyway has it? I can think of wheelspins in Horizon. I *barely * touched Motorsport 7. Still good they are keeping that stuff out. MS seems to be less obsessed with milking that as long as you keep paying for game pass.
Question for you since I know you're a Forza expert. Do you know if in Motorsport it's rather easy to set up races among friends with no AIand whatever cars? I just thought of that this week and would actually make me much more interested in it.
I think they mentioned it because Soyny's GT7 is riddled with it. Random drops for engine swaps finally got removed, but credits are still buyable with real money and some cars cost millions of credits.
They've changed the game so much that I'm not sure. Upgrades are now tied to how much you drive a specific car, so getting a full lobby of friends driving the same car would require you all to grind out the new XP system for an hour or two for the car you choose.
I was going to get GT7 if it ever comes to PC. Maybe not if it's a loot box fest. I always just preferred the old school Gran Turismo style of earning money in races to buy things.

Oh, ugh. I guess we will see then how it goes.

DLC at best. I'm fine with that.
They're already selling DLC passes for $34.99, that will never go away.
Of course.
Seems like you either have "premium" games, free games with cosmetic items you can buy (Epic's way), and EA still sticking to glorified gambling.
