I think it still pops up as a genetic thing from certain ethnic sources. It came up a few times in the US over Covid where they were arguing "black people most affected", even though it's something that can pop up in those of Middle Eastern and Mediterranean origin.
There's also sickle cell trait, which I guess is like part of the condition from a genetic source. Supposedly affects maybe 72,000 people in the US.
Because they're already fat and that's correlated with a variety of breathing related problems.
I was going to guess that they were going to play the Sickle cell anemia victim card again, even though it's still reasonably uncommon.

I’ve never heard that it applies to US Blacks, after how ever many generations they’ve been stateside…
