Yeah, and somehow it works doesn't it? At the end of the adventure they either fuck off to their own culture or kinda travel together because the dynamic is good enough for a quest - but it is always for the specific needs of a monoculture (which is in itself usually quite beautiful); fixing one thing at a time, maybe for loot, but also to bring out the best in that community/culture WITHOUT WORKING AT ITS EXPENSE. Also it's fucking fun not always liking eachother and I think Europeans have always been about this kind of banter. It highlights the differences and that tends to lead to a certain mutual appreciation when and where it actually matters. The opposite is a recipe for disaster, saying "sorry~~ I WAS TOO CULTURALLY INSENSITIVE~~" instead of "Oy fuck off knife ears!" leads to something absolutely insufferable.
I can't believe I even have to say it. If I can't call you a gold grubbing, block-headed, mountain-dwelling shortstack I don't want to be in the same campaign.
Either that, or it is stuff that works like in real life. So for instance, I am running a sort of "sky pirate" campaign (map inspired by Caribbean during Golden Age of Piracy, except its all air ships), and so they have a very motley crew of people. Because it is a pirate ship, so they have to get along or they will be gunned out of the sky. So any racial tension is mostly just for shit talking, not actual beliefs.
Shit's gotta get done and no one forced them but necessity. Actual chemistry guides that ship or else they'd be dead. They don't have to like eachother but atleast there are no secrets or illusions in this regard - when men live and work together such a thing is imperative.
