Its not as bad as its reputation would have you believe (though I only watched the original two seasons), unless you are obsessed with getting every single joke. Because its filled with freeze frame bonuses that are literally impossible to read normally and references to things that are obscure even in Japan.
But the show basically has no continuity after the first half of the first season introducing the characters (and the big twist near the end), so its not like you miss much if you don't get something.
