I’m imagining his argument is that LA is more “liberal” than NYC, which is arguable I guess…
But nah, you’re right, it is much more like NYC, in every possible way, “old money” cosmopolitan liberalism included…
Same with Sydney. People always compare it to LA, and Melbourne to NYC, but that’s really not true.
Large, financial, extremely cosmopolitan port cities which are also the largest in their respective countries - they all tend to have the same “issues”, as well as arguably perks… 🤷🏻♂️
But Melbourne likes to think it is NYC, because of course it does…
Try plain concrete blocks. That’s what we have in Aus, in the major cities… 😑
Same exact reason, they just can’t be arsed even going to that effort, lol…
Unironically, I stayed in (or possibly very near) Kensington once. Accommodation was proper awful, though, so trust me, there’s still really shitty hotels, even among the extreme wealth that we’ve both evidently seen there, lol…
I only went past Bucks on the tourist bus (before London Bridge, but after the Underground shit), but I can totally imagine that, lol…
Tbf, parliament here (again, only in the major cities) has that, too.
Not so much places like the Opera House, though, but security there is still absurd, now.
Canberra, which is the capital of course, is a weird mixture of extreme over-policing (around any official government buildings), and complete lack of security on every other tourist attraction, thus allowing the Abos to literally trash each (see: Old Parliament House)…
Wouldn't London be more like NY, a cosmopolitan nightmare that is a center of finance capital?

North London, innit?
Or like, West London. The posh bits, basically…
What’s the most “establishment” bit? Probably Kensington and Chelsea, right..?

It’s weird.
