Social media is said to be designed to evoke outrage. It rewards higher rates of 'engagements' by pushing the output higher up in the (editorially controlled) trending algorithm(s). The very nature of a trender appears to be to seek attention. Throwing temper tantrums and engaging in histrionics are core components of trender ideology, e.g. "We're facing a genocide!!!!111"
Social media rewards temper tantrums with algorithmic signal boosting. Consequently, Big Tech has been an accelerant of the trender mania that has swept across Western civilization. They also provided the incubation chambers (tumblr, twitter, reddit) for this trender ideology to metastasize and spread out amongst 'victim obsessed' youth demographics.
In many ways, trenders are (ironically) copying the rule books of Muslim agitators. They're another victim group that routinely throws violent temper tantrums (terrorist attacks) when they don't get their way. They also stand opposed to Western society & culture as a whole and demand that others bend over backwards to accommodate their outrageous demands.
Social media is this century's version of asbestos. We won't know the full extent of the damage that it's doing for decades to come.
I feel like we could say that for a lot of things.
Puberty Blockers are this century's version of asbestos.
MRNA therapies are this century's version of asbestos.
WiFi is this century's version of asbestos.
Seed oils are this century's version of asbestos.
Artificial atmospheric alterations are this century's version of asbestos.
(Say what you will about the more "out there" examples, we don't have document studies on any of them. Or not nearly enough.
Agree. I'd recently started sneaking back on Twitter albeit in much less than I used to. Not that I ever really posted I just used it to read things. I deleted it yesterday morning when I realized I'd been on there a little more this week and it was just pissing me off. That's it for Twitter, fool me once and twice ok, you don't get three chances. Only other social media I use is this site and very occasionally poke around Instagram but that's like family and friend stuff at best.
