An NPC literally does not seek out information, ever. That's what makes them NPCs. Unless the establishment puts it in their brain for them, it doesn't exist. The entire world could explode in nuclear hellfire and their own backyard could be incinerated, but unless MSNBC or CNN talk about it, they'll just continue on with their day as if nothing happened. No sentience, no soul, no ability to react to the world around them in a way that matters.
