Some of you will have seen the post the other day. Apparently I made a girl “uncomfortable” via a text exchange (I assure you, there was nothing untoward on my part).
I pressed the University for details, and now I am told I am being formally investigated. They’ve formally accused me of misconduct, now, and told me that I must speak to them over the phone, this week…
For various reasons I won’t go into, I simply cannot do the phone thing, this week. I just can’t. I’ve told them so, and I’ve also told them that I will be seeking legal advice.
They linked me to a web page which essentially, very nebulously, outlines that anyone can make an allegation against a student, even anonymously, and it will be investigated, even if the situation in question has nothing to do with the University…
It even says “Anything can be sexual harassment, even if it only occurs once”. So I gather that is what I am up for…
Fuck me. This is so fucked…
Others have actually already been giving excellent advice here actually, but just to drive the point home with some MRA style advice, there are certain steps you always take in this situation.
. Do not make contact with this girl, ever, do not text back even if she texts you, record everything
. Do not go to any 'investigations' or 'meetings' regardless of how much they try to threaten you, they can't do shit beyond suspending or expelling you, they have no authority over you as an adult but they will try and entrap you by getting you to say something to incriminate yourself
. Never sign anything that people approach you with
. Do not talk to anyone that knows her personally as that will also potentially start something and make the situation worse
. Definitely talk to your family, even if you can't afford a lawyer, take the steps above and that alone protects you a lot legally, most people are incredibly stupid in how they handle it and think people in this situation will be nice if they just smooth things over
All good advice, but also: record everything going forward if you want any chance counter suing them later.
Yeah this is a big one, even if it's seemingly insignificant, I don't know if the OP wants to really go through with that though but personally I would. Them trying to threaten him already with informal meetings and other bullshit is already a tell tale sign it's probably malicious. If they actually had something on him they would have either handed him over to the police or booted him out immediately but they're looking to make a drama out of this.
We saw this shit constantly over on the MRA subreddit back when the mods hadn't cucked. You'd be surprised how often young people came back really grateful and the whole thing got solved, especially the maternity fraud cases which are particularly fucked up.
