Pretty much everyone gave into the hysteria for at least a bit, and I'd argue that Trump's willingness to go along with the "2 weeks to flatten the curve" bullshit gave red state governors the cover they needed to go along with the nonsense. A timeline where Trump refuses to go along is a timeline where the right starts fighting back way sooner than it did in OTL. If we're doing comparisons then the first ones to lift the lockdowns and fight the mandates are the winners, and Florida stacks up pretty well on that count.
True. Had Trump said he wouldn’t ruin the economy you know the media would’ve been even worse. They gleefully reported cases and deaths and out in fine print that people died with covid or most had underlying issues
