With the average age of widowhood being 59, as reported by the U.S. Census Bureau
I see this "fact" thrown around a lot, with the age reported as anywhere between 55 and 60, but unless I'm missing something, it's mathematically impossible.
The average age gap in a marriage is about 3 years. The average man lives to the age of 73. That'd put his wife at 70, which is a far cry from 55. And if you correct for homicide, which contrary to feminist narrative almost exclusively affects men in their teens and early 20s, men probably live to more like 75.
Its like the "life expectancy in the past was only 30!" meme. Its only true if you use pure raw numbers with no context.
In the historical case, it was because infant mortality was so high and if you made it to like age 7 you'd live a pretty normally long life. And currently its because men are both getting killed and killing themselves at a high rate, which again lowers the average a lot.

I know women live 5 - 7 years longer than men on average.
I always suspect they're making this up, but men dying much sooner is probably a factor they're carefully avoiding saying.
