I've not read that comic book, that seems very niche. I do know her from the main game where she is rescued by Mario as the main "plot", if you can call it a plot.
I find modern day girl boss trope to be incredibly annoying, modern writers can't seem to write a likable woman.
And if I have to chose Mario and a goofy Luigi going to rescue Peach is a lot more appealing then marry sue Peach and goofy Mario saving Luigi.
I'd bet 9/10 people who are fans of the series never read it. Most people just think of the games.
Its like when people were confused about Metroid Other M depicting Samus as a helpless trauma victim despite every other game depicting her as a badass. It was based on the manga which nobody other than the most hardcore autists read.
Yup, I just played Prime Remastered recently which takes place very early in the timeline (between Metroid 1 and 2), and Samus immediately readies for battle both times she comes face to face with Ridley, by Other M she should be able to deal with him in her sleep.

Am I seriously the only one that read that?
There's a complete fandub on Youtube. Check it out sometime.

Even factoring that in, it makes no sense. At that point she had bitchslapped ridley multiple times. It's after super metroid.
