It's been that way for ages. Criminal Minds was so predictable that "we're looking for a white male in his late 20s" became a meme among people who watched it, and that first aired 18 years ago. Comedians were making jokes about burglars in alarm company ads always being white as long as I can remember.
The only time a black guy has been allowed to be an unrepentant villain in any fiction for at least the past thirty years is when the main character is also black. Thanks to 9/11 we had a few years there when Arabs were allowed to be evil, but even then they always had a token peaceful Muslim who constantly delivered monologues about how Islam is a religion of peace and terrorists aren't true Scotsmen Muslims. When's the last time a white culture got that kind of respect from Hollywood? Oh, literally never? How curious.
Exactly. I predicted this when they started this obsession. I love detective shows and stories but that’s also part of the reason I am very wary of watching anything made after 2014
It makes any kind of detective show pretty pointless when you can identify the villain by skin tone within 30 seconds of them showing up...
