If race has any role I'd be more inclined to think it's a factor of the doctor's race. Knowing the academic standards for medical schools I'd be far more wary of having a black doctor. Likewise, I would be more confident in my doctor's abilities if they were some variety of East Asian than I would be of one of my own race.
