I'm really only surprised she looks like from a circa 1994 CD-ROM game cutscene

It's also a deeply offensive statement on its face. Imagine if they de-blackwashed Nick Fury and said "fans are loving that Fury is white again!". The screeching from NPCs would deafen all life on earth. But somehow implying that racial erasure is a good thing just soars right over the heads of 90% of people when it's happening to white people.
I always wonder how many white people it would soar by. The ones I talk to have universally noticed that they are being discriminated against in some capacity. If they are racial masochists, then they may be happy about that, but they at least realize it.
They tend to just be a little bit small minded about it. One guy will notice he was passed over for a promotion in his gov't job (think fireman or the military), another guy will notice because he used to be in landscaping until the Mexicans took it over, and a third guy is really concerned with college admissions. Not as many put all the cases together, and even fewer know what to do about it.
While people are enthusiastic about Red/Blue politics -- enthusiastic about Trump -- people largely find voting ineffective. They don't have an outlet for any white rage. The GOP would shut it down.
