The weird thing is a lot of hipsters DON’T have money, or at least not their own money. For a lot of them, their pretenses of culture are killing their meager wallets, but it’s worth it to be able to look down on people who are as poor as they are but aren’t as clever as the hipsters are at hiding it. It’s almost British in the way classes can be separated by ostentation even if two people have the exact same amount of money in the bank.
I know people talk about “class war” and “culture war” all the time, but that’s literally what this is, lol…
“Fuck your lower class cheap tastes. You’re not welcome here. Hipsters are just better than you. They actually have money, and class.”
This never ends well…
And yes, it was just a shitty chain restaurant. I get that, but it’s the trend, man, the trend…
Not everyone can afford, or wants to eat at, expensive “gastropubs” and “all day brunch cafés specializing in smashed avocado and almond lattes”…
If you do, good for you. But you should be able to choose alternatives, and not be sneered at, like in this article, for wanting to do so…
Eugh.
I will never respect the taste of people who spend $10+ on "avocado toast".

I simply want my own people to have a robust set of shibboleths that can be used to weed out the hipsters and tell them that they aren't welcome here.
