I remember back when I watched shows on ESPN still they discussed a poll of native Americans that showed almost 95% weren’t bothered by the name redskin. The analysts said it didn’t matter because if one person was offended that was all that mattered. I didn’t realize Chiefs was offensive to people.
You want to know how I know these people are grifters?
They are complaining about the Chiefs name. But they arent talking about the fans doing the "Tomahawk Chop" as part of their touchdown celebrations, which is when everyone waves their right arm stiff like they are swinging a Tomahawk. But you have to actually be a fan to know about that, and these people dont put in that kind of effort.
Also, I know damn well that most of the local native American tribes dont care about it. Hell, the schools on local reservations have Indian mascots! Notice it always Lakota doing this sort of stuff too. Not the Kickapoo or the Potawatomi, who are the local tribes you think would be the most offended.
American Indians were all defeated in wars and still allowed to live and mostly make their own rules, unlike any other defeated people in the history of the world.
Except the Lakota apparently. 9/10 times, whenever you see "Indian tribe complains about [x]", its the Lakota.
Then again, from what I have seen, my local tribes actually take care of themselves. I have driven through the Kickapoo reservation, and forgot where I was until I saw the Casino. I drove through a Lakota reservation in S. Dakota, and I have seen better maintained scrap yards and trash dumps.
I grew up in Oklahoma so I remember Camp Kickapoo. Also we had a lot of tribal representatives come talk to our class whenever we celebrated the founding of Oklahoma as a territory. They were usually from the 5 civilized tribes.

Lakota are scum. Until they were civilized they were what the white men talked about when they warned of Indians on the plains.

Of course. I would also think a lot of Native American have better things to do than be offended by a mascot.
