Funnily enough, I was just hearing from a VTuber I watch (I know, I'm sorry) that she still likes to wear her mask when she goes out in public because she has horrible self-esteem issues, and it lets her ignore most of her makeup, which she feels naked and exposed without.
Idk what's done more damage; the masks themselves and the ensuing dependence on them to "feel safe," or the tyrannical policies put in place on top of them. Authoritarians can be jailed and executed, and edicts rescinded and lifted, but how do you fix a person so irreparably damaged by constant fear and paranoia?

I mean, this is a problem that is at minimum decades if not centuries old that nobody even questions. The kind that keeps those "horrible self esteem issues" going in a lot of girls for every generation, of which this mask option is a bandaid solution.
And, much like this mask thing, if you even point out that its a bit of a problem that they even think that way, they go full aggression on you and scream incoherent accusations at you of bigotry.
