I think the flaw here is in the premise. He says the optimal relationship between a man and a woman is voluntary, but it's more like semi-voluntary in the same way that the optimal relationship between a child and parent is semi-voluntary. Politically, and in terms of rational thought, women are something between children and male adults, which is why throughout history (and still today in most of the world) politics and culture has reflected that. In Iran's case it's gone too far in some ways but its optimally somewhere between Iran's total subjugation of women and the West's simpdom and delusional view that the sexes are equal. This is also why women's life satisfaction in the West has declined since the ascendancy of feminism.
Women say they're subjugated if they can't murder a man and get away with it. They are perennial victims who have a massively abusive relationship with the rest of society.

I highly doubt women are "totally subjugated" in Iran lol. Maybe in some far off villages
