Malthus wasn't as much of a crazed lunatic as Paul Ehrich. He was a mild-mannered clergyman genuinely concerned about the poor.
The guy predicted billions of deaths in the 1970s, was (obviously) wrong, but is still making predictions that turn out wrong. He lost a famous bet because he also predicted that resources were running out.
