As someone who didn't mind masks as much as the rest of the folks here, masks on planes are the worst.
It's one thing to wear a mask when you're going into a store for 5 minutes, but 2-3 hours of not being able to breathe properly, no thanks.
I don't think this will be followed by any place outside the US. Even when masks were mandatory on planes in European countries, I do recall about 3/4 of people took them off when they took their seat.
It's not that it wasn't required. It was just that people wouldn't obey, and there were apparently too many for the flight crew to do (or try to do) something about it.

Maybe they realized that it was a bit silly.
Meanwhile in Seattle, I saw people driving on their own with mask on.
