Context is irrelevant, the only thing that matters is the principle, which here is that anyone should be allowed to say anything at all times, unless the words are posing a direct and intended threat, or causing direct and intended physical harm.
The leftist will say that the reaction is also free speech, but that's absolute nonsense and assumes that there are no workers protections. If you do something that is not illegal, like idk petting a kitten, then your job should absolutely not be allowed to fire you for it.

What you want to say is: "I agree that it's totally not permissible to say nigger, and I completely agree with the concept of hate speech, and totally saying nigger is hate speech, and hate speech is heresy, and people who engage in hate speech should be drawn and quartered and exiled, BUT you see in this particular instance he said nigger because he was using it as an example of a hate speech word to make the point that it's dangerous to our democracy, and so in this particular instance what he did was justifiable."
