I read the book a looong time ago, in the fourth grade, I think.
I remember enjoying it, though I don't remember that much of it, I think because it was so abstract to my young mind, being written from the point of view of a bird. I remember a part near the end, vividly describing trying to fly as fast as possible.
I read it around 30 years ago. From memory it was a sort of symbolic reimagining of the Christ mythos via being different, exploring that and then coming back to the fold to share what has been learned.
I used to think that Steven King wrote it under a pseudonym which is why I recall it at all.
Had to read it in high-school. I remember it being pretty good, and the teacher wanted us to read it every 10 years as the meaning would change at various points in our lives.

Maybe I should re-visit that one.
Wasn't that like the worst movie of the sappy 70's? I have vague memories of derision.
Never saw the movie. I’m surprised since an animated movie would be easy. I enjoyed reading the book.

I pretty much thought the same thing. About it being a reimagining of Christ

I can see how that could be.
