I noticed the same thing recently with academic takes on low birth rates in countries like Japan and South Korea. Instead of simply admitting that it's the fault of Leftism/liberalism, they simply reinterpret it as consequent of the persistence of a supposed 'gender pay gap', traditional views and on a few other things that I can't remember and which aren't really worth entertaining.

For if the Left-wing narrative on low birth rates were correct, surely the birth rate should have much lower in the past (due to these factors supposedly reducing fertility being much more pronounced back then) rather than much higher, as they actually were. If 'traditional views' were responsible for low fertility, humans would indubitably have been extinct long ago. Ergo, Leftists are as full of kak there as anywhere else, and have nothing to offer as a 'solution' but more of the problem.
