Either the various races are genetically compatible, and are thus only cosmetically different, or they are not genetically compatible and all the half-breeds need to be gone.
I agree with this part. I understand why people want to play as a thiefling or half-something but I never liked it. There is a reason why most mix of tigers and lions are sterile. Elves are not humans with pointy ears but at least there is some reason for it from Tolkien but I am not even sold on half-elves.
You know someone is playing for the first time when they decide to play as a Tiefling. Everything about it, from its appearance to its origin just screams "Look at how unique I am!"
Well, it might be like polar bears and grizzley bears: They can interbreed, but only a rare few of them are genetically able to reproduce further. Those ones in turn have more children, becoming instantly the dominant genetic strain since there's literally no competition. And unlike bears, these are sapient creatures.
So a halfie born of two halfies is viable, but one born of mixed parentage is sterile.
