It's pokemon so as long as the core mechanic of 'gotta catch them all!' is intact it'll still sell well plus it's attached a lot of the streamers into playing it.
The story is less how well it sells but that Japanese players are quickly calling them out. Hopefully it means there's a growing pushback against the woke in Japan, I think a lot of the money incentives they had to make game companies woke is running dry now.

You haven't been able to do that in almost any Pokemon game, a dozen pokemon require trading while holding an item (good luck finding a GBA network link with another human being nowadays), events which took place ten years ago, or trading between games.
