Wasn't Hitler democratically elected? I don't think we can accurately call him a dictator.
The title was not "king" or "dictat" or "general", it was "chancellor". The head clerk.
If you are elected and then declare emergency powers, ignore constitution and start declaring your word is law and checks and balances no longer matter, and outlaw other parties, you are a dictator.
The emergency powers were not lifted during Hitler's reign as chancellor.
